Abstract:
Simulation imaging studies are motivated by limitations in clinical trials length, cost, and available patients. Virtual clinical trials – VCTs – represent a simulation approach based upon the computational simulation of anatomy, imaging modalities, and image interpretation. VCTs can help to preclinically develop novel imaging systems; prototype/augment clinical trials; and obtain regulatory approvals – thus making the cancer imaging research more democratic. This presentation reviews the state-of-the science in VCTs of breast cancer imaging, current open questions, and recent research community initiatives.
